Turnkey Integration with Cilium CNI

In the first blog, we discussed how organizations can use Hubble for Cilium for observability. In this blog, we will look at how the Rafay Platform provides a tight, turnkey integration with Cilium making life easy for platform teams. In the next blog, my colleague will describe and showcase how an administrator can configure and enable Hubble on a Rafay MKS based Kubernetes cluster with the Cilium CNI.

Rafay + Cilium

Configuration & Deployment

Users of the Rafay platform can specify, deploy and use the Cilium CNI on clusters provisioned or managed by Rafay. They can select Cilium as the CNI Provider at cluster provisioning time and the cluster is born with the Cilium CNI right from start. Rafay's Bring Your Own (BYO) CNI option allows the administrator to customize Cilium the way they want as part of a Cluster Blueprint. Once selected, the cluster is provisioned with the customized Cilium CNI.

Custom Cilium Blueprint

The same workflow can be used for both Day-1 and Day-2 configuration of the Cilium CNI. This provides organizations with significant flexibility with how they would like to configure and use the Cilium CNI. In the follow-on blog, we will use this approach to enable Hubble with the Cilium CNI.

Conclusion

In this blog, we reviewed how users of the Rafay Platform can benefit from the turnkey integration with Cilium. In the next blog, my colleague will showcase how customers can easily deploy and use Hubble with Cilium on upstream Kubernetes clusters managed by the Rafay Platform.
